Having problems with your Air Conditioners ?

Hi All, I have a carrier reverse cycle airconditioning unit and about a week ago the digital thermostat blanked out. I spoke to an aircon repair tech and he suggested that the fuse is blown at the air handler and suggested that I can probably replace the fuse myself. My question is where is this fuse located in the carrier units, do I have to open panels or is it in a box like a fuse box in a car. I have no issues checking the fuse if I know where to find it LOL, The model of the unit is

Answers :

It will be inside the unit main panel. Turn main power off and remove the main front panel. The fuse will be located on or near the fan control board. Typically they are a flat agc type fuse. 3-5 amps. The problem will be that if the fuse is blown -there is a reason for it. They don;t just wear out and blow. Look for frayed wires around the outside unit and in the thermostat to make sure you dont have a short. Otherwise, you will just blow the fuse you replace.

When I turn my electric a/c to heater it makes a repeat tac sound quite loud. An a/c tech opened the metal box on left side where the fuse is located and said that the board and relay needs to be replaced. My a/c heating unit is an American Standard made by Trane model TWV036B140A1. What do you think it might be the problem? What are the technical name or numbers of the parts the a/c tech is referring to? Where he or I can buy it and for how much? What is the guarantee? Thanks. Tommy reply2t

It sounds like the tech was referring to the blower relay. The blower relay on this unit originally had a small circuit board mounted to it. It's only purpose was to allow for delay off-time of the blower at shutdown. In other words, once the command ... American Standard Air Conditioners

Goodman a/c j41 fan not running, turned off and on at fuse box, took a look at the box next to a/c unit and opened the box on the wall and pulled the plug and pulled the plastic panel off, there is no fuses. So i put back together and turned the a/c unit on, now at thermostat the snowflake is no longer flashing, some cold air coming out of vents, but outside a/c unit fan still does not run.

First you need to disconnect all power. Try spinning the fan blade, if it spins freely, then try moving the shaft from side to side to see if there's any side play. If not then the bearings are OK. If there seems to be some drag when your spinning th ... Goodman CKL42AR42 Air Conditioner

Our inside unit Coleman EB20B (outside unit Goodman GKL 49-1) keeps blowing the in-line 3 amp thermostat fuse. We've rewired the wires in the wall, rewired the contactor wires, and the contactor was broken so we replaced it. We're still blowing the fuse. Could we have reversed the thermostat wires at the contactor? Or could the short be in the Blend Air box-this box is coupled to the thermostat wires? Thanks Ken Rohm

My Goodman Mfg AC unit is blowing fuses on the control board inside the blower/air handler unit. This fuse supplies 24V to the outside compressor unit. Originally, there was a 3 A fuse in it. I replaced it with a 5 A fuse that lasted for a year. Now it has blown. I suspect that the solenoid actuator coil on the outside compressor unit is becoming lossy and drawing more amperage in the hot weather and my solution is to replace that component. Does that sound right?

Planning on replacing my Federal Pacific circuit box. It is a 24 breaker box. I just checked it to find that it is rated to handle up to 125 amps. Few days ago, an electrician checked the box and suggested a 100 amp 20/40 Siemen box. Until today, I did not catch the amp difference between my old box and what he has suggested. I have a call into him. Doesn't make sense to me to go to a lesser rated box. If anything, I would think that a replacement should be a larger amp box, ie 150 or 200 amp.

You do not need to replace the main circuit breaker with less rating, it may trip during peak loads due to lesser current carrying capacity. If you are planning to replace the main circuit breaker with higher rating, you must verify first if the main ... Air Conditioners
