Having problems with your Air Conditioners ?

Hello, my HVAC is constantly freezing, even after freon is added. I was told that I have a leak in the coils and need to chance the air handler - the outside unit is about 10 years old - air handler about 18 years old. I would like to get only the air handler for my R22 outside condensing unit. My question is if in the future can I use this same 3.5 ton air handler with a new 410 condensing unit once my outside unit needs to be replaced. In other words can a Goodman air handler be used firs

I'm new at this and I can't tell how old the post is but I'll contribute anyway.
You probably have fixed the problem by now. I wonder what part of the system is freezing up. I don't have a lot of experience but I know you can get frost where there is a restriction in the freon. If the freon line filter near the outside unit has frost on the house side the filter is partially plugged. I have also seen fost on the evaporator (attic "A" coil) when there is a shortage of return air flow. You could have a plugged filter or colapsed return duct, or even an "A" coil with a lot of dust covering and plugging the fins. I guess restrictions in your room air supply registers could cause the problem too. Maybe you have most of the vents closed off to save energy. Just some possibilities.
Hi,
\012No you can not use a R-410 air handler with a R-22 condenser unit...the exspansion devices are different as the properties of the refrigerants are enough different that they are not interchangable...
\012Really your only choice is to replace the whole unit as it sounds like the exspansion valve or the orfice is partially clogged and it makes you constantly freeze up....
\012There are some things you could do to make it work at reduced capacity but it is way beyond what I could tell you through a computer...

Air Conditioning I have a ruud system with the air conditioner outside and the air handler upstairs in the attic. My systems appears to be running, and I can feel cold air at the vents, but I can barely feel it. Like there is no flow. The fan outside is running and the unit in the attic is running. I have no clue what the problem is. The large coil coming from the heat pump outside is cold and has condensation on it. It also seems to have a little ice. It has been extremely hot here in Ge

Hi: I have a Carrier 38CMC42300 AC unit which will not turn on and the air handler is blowing hot air. The 40 amp breaker for the AC unit trips right away when reset. Have Coleman-Evcon heat pump system. Model DRHS0421CB. Condensing unit has intermittent no run condition. I replaced the contactor, as it was a few years old. I eliminated the thermostat from the equation by twisting together the RYO wires at the thermostat sub panel. There is a condensate build up in my Trane XP 100 Air handler located in my hot Florida garage. The unit sweats on the out side and inside water drips through the heating unit which now shows rust marks and onto the squirrel cage fan. Hello. I have a RUUD-UBHA-21J18SFBA electric furnace with a 3-1/2 Ton condensing unit and matching A-coil. The furnace (air-handler) has the a-coil attached to the bottom and was initially used as a downflow system. Can I convert theis system to an horzontal flow system? If so, can the a-coil be removed and rotated so that the condensate pan will then be on the bottom again, thereby allowing for the proper colection and removal of the resulting condensation? Thanks. This is a central air conditioning question. I have no power to the "battery-less" thermostat. I have two thermostats in the main house and swapped them out to see if one of the thermostats is bad, but both thermostats are working. There's just no power to the terminal in the living room. I checked the 5amp fuse to the air handler, and it's good. I checked the A/C unit outside and pressed down the contactor, the a/c kicks on. What am I missing?
